a child's faith

The following story was sent to me by email from a very good friend of mine who I've known since nursery. It could probably even be before that! I was so touched by this beautiful story about her daughter that I asked her if I could share it here, so others could read too.

Well I have a story I wanted to share with you all, no this is not one of those pre-written feel good stories or the type of story that you have to send this to twenty people to get your wish to come true. This is a story of one little girls faith.

We have been reading our scriptures daily and talking a lot with Mona about her choices and how they make people feel, especially her Father in Heaven. We also have been striving really hard to have our family prayers at night and help her with her personal prayers. I find myself amazed every time at the faith a child of mine displays. After her personal prayers she tells me every night that if she gets scared she will just pray and her Father in Heaven will help her go to sleep and take her fears away, lately she has also been known to tell perfect strangers that too. It is a good thing we live in Rexburg where most of the population is LDS and understand what she is talking about.

Yesterday, we went to Porter Park and they were having a huge festival put on by one of the credit unions in town. There were lots of games to play, food to eat and toys to win. She and her daddy got her a helium balloon that she was so excited to play with when we got home. She ran with it through the park and even shared it a bit with her sister. While she was running with the balloon she accidentally let go and of course it floated up to the atmosphere. A terrible fit ensued. She screamed and shook and screamed some more. Finally, I told her that the balloon is going up so high it is going to get into outerspace with the stars. She stopped her screaming enough to inform me that no, her balloon is going into heaven so that her brother Thomas could play with it for a bit and then Jesus was going to blow it back down to her. I stopped in my tracks amazed at her logic. The screaming stoppped, but the crying continued. She was still upset that she lost her balloon and that she had to share it for a bit with her brother who lives in heaven, but she believed with all of her heart that Jesus would blow it back down to her. Thank goodness for her earthly father who quickly told her that she could let Thomas play with that balloon and we would go to the store and get her another one. Since this was a better idea than just sharing one balloon she was in quick agreement, and her beautiful smile returned to her face.

I know that it isn't much or as heart pulling as one of those pre-written stories, but I was so amazed at the faith that a child has that it has kept me up all night. I couldn't believe that even over the loss of a mere balloon she was so sure that it to was going to heaven. I am so thankful for the blessing of my children and their faith, it keeps me asking questions of my own and wondering if I too could have the faith of a child or even just the size of a mustard seed, if I could make my balloon be blown back down from heaven.

thanks for reading, I love you all and hope you are all doing well.
Lots of Love
Esther

Thanks again Esther!
